Quezon city: Stefanie Berberabe registered a triple-double in leading Tagaytay-Tol to a 72-58 victory over RK Hoops-Quezon City Wednesday night in the 2025 Women’s Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League at Montano Hall in Quezon City. She had 12 points, 11 rebounds, and a record 14 steals as the Patriots ended a two-game skid, improving to 3-6 to keep their hopes for a twice-to-beat incentive in the quarterfinals alive.
According to Philippines News Agency, Berberabe expressed her enthusiasm for playing with her team, emphasizing her dedication on the court. “I love playing with this team. Every time I get to step on the court, I just don’t take it for granted. I always want to give my all and never give up,” said Berberabe, who made eight assists during the game.
The match saw Tagaytay-Tol maintain a significant lead with a halftime score of 38-23. However, RK Hoops-Quezon City rallied behind players Anna Escotido, Bernaly Aragon, and Maria Cayco, narrowing the gap to 40-33 with 4:36 left in the third quarter. In response, Justine Domingo and Berberabe scored back-to-back baskets, extending the Patriots’ lead to 58-40, which they maintained until the end.
Tagaytay-Tol’s head coach, Tito Reyes, acknowledged the victory but stressed the need for continued improvement. “In a way, we are happy because we won. But we are not satisfied with the win because our goal is to play much, much better for the upcoming games. Of course, because we are about to enter an important phase of the tournament,” Reyes stated.
In addition to Berberabe’s performance, Domingo contributed 11 points, three rebounds, and three assists. Monique Del Carmen and Danica Pacia scored eight points each, while skipper Luisa San Juan and Claudine Santos added seven points apiece. Tagaytay-Tol is set to face San Juan-DN Steel in Pangasinan on Oct. 5 at 6 p.m.
On the opposing side, Buendia finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Natasha Alcantara and Escotido had 11 and 10 points, respectively, for RK Hoops-Quezon City, which suffered its sixth straight loss against one win. RK Hoops-QC will take on Pangasinan-Solar Home also on Oct. 5 at 8 p.m.
