Baguio Police Promote Online App for Real-Time Traffic and Ordinance Updates

Baguio: The Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) has encouraged both tourists and locals to make use of the online application BCPO@viewBaguio. This app provides real-time updates on traffic conditions, crowd estimates, and the availability of parking spaces in specific areas.

According to Philippines News Agency, BCPO director Col. Ruel Tagel emphasized the importance of staying informed. “Ligtas ang may alam (Those who know are safe),” he stated, highlighting that the app also provides information on city ordinances enforced by the police to prevent violations. These ordinances include a no smoking rule in public places, a number coding scheme, and prohibitions on spitting, littering, and using gadgets while walking.

Col. Tagel also mentioned the implementation of ‘Implan kalmang paglalakbay’, which aims to ensure increased police visibility in tourist hotspots such as parks, the city market, churches, and checkpoints at the city’s boundaries. Approximately 400 uniformed personnel are assigned throughout the city, supplemented by force multipliers who offer motorist assistance, medical aid, and tourist information.

Meanwhile, Brig. Gen. David Peredo, director of the Police Regional Office Cordillera Administrative Region (PROCAR), announced the deployment of an additional 2,000 personnel to aid motorists and tourists. He has also visited various transportation terminals in Baguio and Benguet to remind drivers and conductors to transport travelers safely.

In collaboration with the Department of Transportation and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, spot drug testing has been conducted on at least 25 drivers and conductors at each of the six major bus and public utility van terminals. This initiative is part of efforts to ensure safe travel for passengers, especially during the Holy Week in the region.
