Nairobi: Azerbaijan has been elected as a member of the Executive Board of the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat) for the first time during the session of the UN-Habitat Assembly held in Nairobi, Kenya on May 30. The Executive Board is a key decision-making entity within UN-Habitat and consists of 36 member states elected by the UN-Habitat Assembly.

According to Philippines News Agency, Azerbaijan’s membership on the board is set to last from 2025 to 2029. This election signals a significant advancement in Azerbaijan’s participation in international urban development initiatives. Over recent years, the collaboration between Azerbaijan and UN-Habitat has seen steady growth.

Azerbaijan’s involvement with UN-Habitat was notably highlighted when the country hosted the World Habitat Day in 2023. Building on this engagement, Azerbaijan is preparing to host the 13th session of the UN World Urban Forum (WUF13), a major global event focused on sustainable urbanization, scheduled to take place from May 17-22, 2026.
