Manila: Despite a drop in January 2026 conventional vehicle sales, a Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. (CAMPI) official expressed optimism for growth this year.
According to Philippines News Agency, CAMPI President Jose Maria Atienza stated that total conventional vehicle sales last month reached 33,696, a decrease from 37,504 in January 2025 and 42,870 in December 2025. These figures were derived from data provided by CAMPI, the Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA), and other sources.
Commercial vehicles led the sales with 27,518 units, while light commercial vehicles accounted for 20,392. Passenger cars followed with 6,178 units, Asian utility vehicles at 6,253, light-duty trucks and buses at 605, medium-duty trucks and buses at 226, and heavy-duty trucks and buses at 42.
Electrified vehicle (EV) sales totaled 2,610, an increase from 1,600 in January 2025, but a decline from 4,358 in December 2025. Atienza noted that the January dip was anticipated following last month's surge, which marked the highest sales since 2017.
Atienza expressed confidence in the industry's ability to meet its year-end goal of surpassing 500,000 sales. He stated, "January 2026 sales level indicates that the industry is still on pace to meet its yearend goal."
He further added, "When market seasonality adjustment is factored in, January sales level aligns with the steady pace observed during the second half of last year."
