Antique Rum Collection Shines at DTI Trade Fair

Iloilo city: The Don Tikyo rum produced by Colsol Distillery in Antique has been recognized as the best product collection at the 2025 Panublion regional trade fair organized by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Iloilo City. The distillery, known for its unique offerings, showcased five kinds of rum: Silver, Spiced, First Lady’s Reserve, Coffee, and Toasted Coconut, all crafted from locally sourced sugarcane and molasses.

According to Philippines News Agency, Colsol Distillery owner Matthew Solis, highlighted the potential of using local raw materials such as sugarcane, molasses, coffee, and coconut in rum production. After spending years in the United States, Solis and his wife Mary Jo returned to Patnongon and initially considered opening a winery before deciding on a rum distillery. Their planning began in 2023, culminating in the launch of Colsol Distillery in August this year.

Each variety of Don Tikyo rum has its own distinct flavor profile, which Solis attributes to the different raw materials sourced from local farmers. Among the collection, the First Lady’s Reserve stands out for its inclusion of bourbon, marking it as the premium offering. Solis expressed plans to expand production in anticipation of increased demand following the award recognition.

Currently, the distillery produces 50 bottles per batch, four times a week. The rum collection is priced between PHP1,200 and PHP1,600, and is available for purchase at their Patnongon store, Produkto Local in San Jose de Buenavista, Raga-ak in Sibalom, and online.

Mary Jade Gonzales, the DTI Antique Director, commented on the economic benefits of the distillery, noting its potential to create local jobs and stimulate the community by sourcing raw materials locally.
