Antique: The Antique provincial board approved an ordinance on Monday to institutionalize the Katuwang sa Diwa at Gawa para sa Masaganang Ani at Mataas na Kita or Kadiwa ng Pangulo (KNP). This initiative is part of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s efforts to enhance agricultural productivity, ensure food security, and increase income opportunities for local farmers and fisherfolk.

According to Philippines News Agency, Board Member Karmila Rose Dimamay, sponsor of the Kadiwa ng Pangulo ordinance and authored by Vice Governor Edgar Denosta, emphasized the importance of this move. The ordinance is seen as crucial to the province’s economic development, aiming to improve food security and the socio-economic conditions of farmers, their families, and consumers.

The ordinance aims to foster partnerships among farmers, local government units (LGUs), and other stakeholders. It also seeks to implement capacity-building programs focusing on modern agriculture. A noteworthy feature of the institutionalization is the organization of a monthly marketing or trade fair, where participating farmers and fisherfolk are exempt from registration fees.

Dimamay stated that the Provincial Government of Antique is committed to supporting the successful implementation of KNP events by providing logistical support. This includes preparing venues, supplying tables, tents, and chairs, and other necessary infrastructure. An annual allocation of PHP2 million has been mandated to support KNP operations and activities.

Additionally, the provincial government, through the Provincial Agriculture Office, will coordinate efforts among various departments such as the Department of Agriculture, Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Labor and Employment, LGUs, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, and farmer organizations. A task force is set to be formed to develop and implement strategies to promote the KNP program.
