Antique: Antique is demonstrating remarkable self-sufficiency in rice, achieving a sufficiency level of 143.77 percent. The province has an available rice supply that can meet local consumption demands for 131 days.
According to Philippines News Agency, Christian Dubria, Agricultural Technician II at the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, announced that Antique is participating in the National Rice Awareness Month (NRAM) celebration this November. The celebration highlights Antique’s crucial role in promoting the country’s self-sufficiency and food resilience. Dubria revealed that Antique will set up a Rice-Based Exhibit Booth from November 18-20 at the New Antique Capitol lobby. This booth will feature rice and value-added rice products, showcased by a rice cluster or rice farmers, and will also serve as Antique’s entry into the NRAM regional contest. The contest will be judged by officials from the Department of Agriculture (DA) and the agri-business sector.
Antique’s advocacy for rice self-sufficiency is underscored by its significant production levels. The province reported a total palay production of 195,936.84 metric tons from January 1 to October 31. This production has resulted in a sufficient rice supply of 1,833,968.85 bags, which can sustain the province’s population of 643,173 for the next 131 days. The daily rice demand in the province is pegged at 4,252 bags, ensuring that local consumption needs will be met adequately.
Dubria emphasized the assurance of having enough rice supply for local consumption over the coming months, reflecting the province’s commitment to maintaining its rice sufficiency levels.
