La trinidad: The Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) has announced its commitment to assist the municipality of La Trinidad in Benguet in enhancing the renowned Strawberry Farm, a popular tourist destination in the region's capital town.

According to Philippines News Agency, TIEZA Chief Operating Officer and General Manager Mark Lapid revealed this initiative during his address at the 117th Baguio Charter Day anniversary held at Baguio Convention Center. He indicated that discussions have been held with Mayor Roderick Awingan and the Department of Agriculture (DA) to resolve the ongoing issues faced by the Strawberry Farm. Lapid further mentioned the potential establishment of food and agri-tourism hubs in the area.

The Strawberry Farm has been plagued by a persistent flooding issue for over two decades, impacting not only the strawberry farmers but also flower and lettuce cultivators and souvenir traders. The municipal government has previously reached out to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for assistance in addressing this chronic problem.

In a bid to accelerate the development project for the strawberry farm, Lapid urged the local government to secure a usufructuary agreement with Benguet State University, which owns the 77-hectare land used by the farmers. The move is seen as a crucial step towards mitigating the flooding challenges and enhancing the farm's infrastructure.

During a recent visit by DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon in August, he assessed the infrastructure damage in La Trinidad and inspected the strawberry farm and Bolo creek. Following expert recommendations from the DPWH, Dizon assured both immediate and long-term support to tackle the issues faced by the farm.
