Adiong Criticizes OVP Report for Ignoring Impeachment Allegations

Manila: House trial spokesperson Zia Alonto Adiong of Lanao del Sur on Monday stated that the recent accomplishment report from the Office of the Vice President (OVP) fails to address the significant allegations Vice President Sara Z. Duterte will confront in her impending impeachment trial before the Senate.

According to Philippines News Agency, Adiong emphasized that while it is beneficial for the public to be informed about the programs implemented by the OVP, these do not pertain to the issues at the heart of the impeachment case. The allegations involve the misuse of confidential funds, unexplained wealth, bribery, and threats against the President, which the accomplishment report does not address.

Adiong's remarks came after the OVP published a report highlighting initiatives such as medical assistance, disaster response, free rides, and the planting of over one million trees during Duterte's initial three years in office. In the report, Duterte asserted that the OVP remained committed despite what she described as unfounded criticisms and systematic attacks.

Adiong stressed that the impeachment trial, scheduled to commence on July 6, is the appropriate arena for the Vice President to respond directly to the accusations against her. He stated that if the allegations are genuinely unfounded, the trial provides Duterte the opportunity to address them clearly within the appropriate forum and through the impeachment process.

Adiong further noted that while public service achievements are commendable, they must coexist with public accountability. He affirmed that assisting the populace is commendable, but such programs cannot negate the severe allegations of corruption, misuse of public funds, and other violations.
