Pangasinan: The government’s emergency hotline ‘911’ and the police’s five-minute quick response program have resulted in the arrest of crime suspects, while assistance was given to several others, the Pangasinan Police Office (PPO) reported.
According to Philippines News Agency, data presented during the PPO’s briefing showed three individuals facing various cases were arrested following calls to 911. These included an individual from San Fabian, apprehended on August 5 for frustrated homicide; another from Infanta town, arrested on August 7 for a rape case; and a third from Villasis town, detained on August 8 for murder.
Two additional arrests were made: a suspect in a stabbing incident from San Jacinto town was arrested on August 6, with the victim taken to a hospital; and another arrest on August 7, following police response to an incident at the village hall in Barangay Bocacliw, Aguilar town.
Authorities also responded to several incidents, including a vehicular traffic accident in Barangay Cauplasan, Sta. Maria town on August 5; a domestic violence report in Barangay Buenlag, Calasiao town on August 6; and assisted a stranded motorist in Dagupan City on August 8.
PPO spokesperson Lt. Trisha Mae Guzman reported that a total of 172 calls were received by the hotline in the province alone from August 2 to 10, 2025.
During the briefing, PPO officer-in-charge Col. Arbel Mercullo noted a 99 percent implementation rate of the five-minute response time in the province’s highly urbanized areas. However, rural areas face challenges due to geographical issues.
Col. Mercullo assured that efforts are ongoing to address these challenges, with plans to strategically station police personnel in every sector to ensure a five-minute response time. He also reminded the public to reserve the hotline for emergency calls only, warning of legal consequences for non-emergency use.
The five-minute response time initiative supports Philippine National Police chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III’s leadership pillars, which emphasize swift and responsive public service, unity within the ranks, and accountability through modernization.
