Masbate: Six members of the New People’s Army (NPA) voluntarily surrendered in Masbate province over the weekend. The returnees surrendered at Esperanza Municipal Police Station (MPS) in Barangay Poblacion.

According to Philippines News Agency, the report was released by Police Regional Office in Bicol (PRO-5) spokesperson Lt. Col. Malu Calubaquib. She stated that the former rebels handed over an improvised 12-gauge shotgun and one live round of ammunition during their surrender. The individuals were identified as belonging to Platoon 1, Kilusang Larangan Guerilla 2, Sub-Regional Committee 4, and the Bicol Regional Party Committee. This group operates under the command of Rogelio ‘Ka Manong’ Suson, who is active in the province’s third district.

The surrendering individuals admitted to participating in numerous meetings and rallies organized by ‘Ka Denden.’ The successful surrender was facilitated through the collective efforts of the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company, Esperanza MPS, 2nd Infantry Battalion, and the 96th Military Intelligence Company of the Philippine Army’s 9th Infantry Division.

Calubaquib mentioned that the returnees will participate in a comprehensive debriefing program and will be enrolled in the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program. This program is designed to aid the reintegration of former rebels into mainstream society by offering various benefits including livelihood assistance, skills training, housing support, and psychological and social rehabilitation.
