4 Arrested, PHP5.4 Million Shabu Seized in Cotabato and Marawi Drug Operations

Cotabato city: Authorities arrested four individuals and seized suspected shabu with an estimated street value of PHP5.4 million during separate entrapment operations here and in Marawi City, police reported.

According to Philippines News Agency, in Cotabato City, a mother and her daughter were apprehended during an entrapment operation in Barangay Poblacion 5 at approximately 7 p.m. on Friday. Anti-narcotics agents confiscated PHP3.4 million worth of illegal drugs. The operation was led by agents of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Drug Enforcement Group – Regional Operations Unit in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PDEG-ROU-BARMM).

A report to Brig. Gen. Jaysen de Guzman, BARMM regional police director, stated that the PDEG-ROU-BARMM operatives arrested alias Fhar, 38, of Barangay Poblacion 1, after she handed over the prohibited substances to an undercover agent. She was accompanied by her 16-year-old daughter during the operation. Seized from them were 10 large sachets of suspected shabu. The 16-year-old was handed over to the city social welfare office, while charges under Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, will be filed against the mother.

In Marawi City, police apprehended two suspected major drug peddlers in Barangay Matampay during a 3 p.m. drug buy-bust operation on the same day. The suspects, identified as Aspira Camid, 30, and Maulana Azis, 31, both from Saguiaran town in Lanao del Sur, were found with three large sachets of suspected shabu valued at PHP2 million. Marawi City Mayor Majul Gandamra and Vice Mayor Sihawi Macauyag were present during the operation, demonstrating support for the PNP’s anti-drug efforts. Police are in the process of filing appropriate charges against the suspects.
