Garin Cites PH’s Clean Energy Shift for Offshore Wind Projects

Manila: Energy Secretary Sharon Garin expressed optimism for the country’s clean energy transition as the Department of Energy (DOE) issued a notice of auction and the terms of reference (TOR) for the fifth green energy auction (GEA-5). According to Philippines News Agency, GEA-5 paves the way for the first competitive auction, specifically for fixed-bottom offshore wind (OSW) projects, the DOE said in a press release on Tuesday. Nearly 47,000 Individuals Impacted by Tropical Depression Verbena and Shear Line

Manila: Close to 47,000 persons have so far been affected by the combined effects of Tropical Depression (TD) Verbena and the prevailing shear line, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Tuesday. According to Philippines News Agency, in its latest situational report, the NDRRMC said the 46,923 affected individuals, equivalent to 15,363 families, are from 44 barangays in Region 13 (Caraga). Bicol LGUs Suspend Classes Due to Verbena

Bicol: Local chief executives in Bicol suspended classes in their areas on Tuesday as Tropical Depression Verbena continues to bring heavy rains across the region. In Sorsogon, Governor Edwin Hamor issued an executive order suspending classes at all levels. Hamor stated that Verbena is expected to bring moderate to heavy rainfall that may cause localized flooding in low-lying areas and communities near river channels, as well as possible landslides. MILF Commander and Six Others Dead in North Cotabato Skirmishes

Matalam: Armed hostilities that erupted Monday in a remote village in Matalam, North Cotabato, involving Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) factions have left seven persons dead, including an MILF field commander.
