Bicol on Alert for Possible Impact of ‘Opong’

Bicol: Government agencies in the Bicol Region have begun preparations for the potential impact of a weather disturbance expected to enter the country this week, to be named “Opong.” Commodore Ivan Roldan, commander of the Philippine Coast Guard District Bicol, said stations and sub-stations are on heightened alert, with personnel and resources on standby. According to Philippines News Agency, Commodore Roldan stated, “As part of our proactive measures, we have activated Disaster Response Groups (DRGs), intensified monitoring of all ports, and are closely coordinating with local government units, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, and other relevant agencies.”

Nando Affects 3.5K Families in Pangasinan

Pangasinan: The Pangasinan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) reported a total of 3,587 families or 10,629 individuals in the province have been affected by Super Typhoon Nando (international name Ragasa) as of 11 a.m. Tuesday. Manila: All 720 students of a secondary school in Matuguinao, Samar, are beneficiaries of a free daily breakfast, while learners from remote village areas receive a complimentary lunch funded by the fifth-class municipality. According to Philippines News Agency, the initiative, named ‘Edukain’-a portmanteau of ‘education’ and ‘kain’ (Filipino for ‘eating’)-aims to promote school attendance by running until the end of the academic year. Mixed Results Mark Treasury Bond Auction

Manila: Mixed results mark the Treasury bond (T-bond) auction on Tuesday as the Bureau of the Treasury (BTr) fully awarded the reissued three-year Treasury bond and partially awarded the 20-year T-bond. With a remaining term of two years and seven months, the reissued three-year T-bond fetched an average rate of 5.605 percent, lower than the previous auction level. The auction was 3.8 times oversubscribed with total tenders amounting to PHP37.9 billion, of which the full program of PHP10 billion was accepted. According to Philippines News Agency, the reissued 20-year T-bond has a remaining life of 18 years and eight months.
