Manila: Operatives of the Philippine National Police’s Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) arrested 143 persons in July over various offenses under the cybercrime law, a police official said Monday. In a statement, ACG Director Brig. Gen. Bernard Yang reported the group’s successful operations, highlighting the arrest of 106 individuals during entrapment operations and 37 other wanted persons in 143 anti-cybercrime operations. Bicol: More than 131,000 rice farmers across six provinces in the Bicol region have received PHP7,000 cash aid from the Department of Agriculture. According to Philippines News Agency, Lovella Guarin, chief of the Regional Agriculture and Fisheries Information Section of DA-5, stated that the aid came from the Rice Farmers Financial Assistance (RFFA), totaling approximately PHP917 million for the entire region. Manila: The Department of Agriculture (DA) is advocating for a temporary suspension of rice imports and an increase in tariffs on imported rice, Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Secretary Dave Gomez announced on Monday. According to Philippines News Agency, the DA is proposing a modest tariff increase on imported rice, raising it to at least 25 percent from the current 15 percent. “The Department of Agriculture is recommending an increase in tariffs on imported rice and a temporary halt to importation to protect local farmers,” Gomez stated. Gaza city: At least 175 people, including 93 children, have died of hunger in the Gaza Strip in recent months, Gaza’s health ministry said. “Six deaths from hunger and malnutrition were reported during the past day,” it said, adding that the overall number of such deaths “has reached 175, including 93 minors.” According to Philippines News Agency, the overall death toll from hostilities in Gaza since October 2023 has climbed to 60,430, with more than 148,000 people being wounded.
