MANJUNG, A gardener who is also the leader of the ‘Dinesh Gang’ was fined RM22,500 by the Magistrate’s Court here today after pleading guilty to 11 charges of theft, mischief, and trespassing. The accused, A. Dinesh Kumar, 24, pleaded guilty after all the charges against him were read out to him before Magistrate Fakhrul Razzi Abd Hamid. The court ordered a jail term of three to 12 months if the accused failed to pay the fine. KOTA BHARU, Police arrested two men on suspicion of being involved in the smuggling of petrol and possession of air rifles in a house in Kampung Nibong, Tanah Merah yesterday. The suspects, aged 40 and 44, also tested positive for Methamphetamine. Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching said the ministry decided to implement the measure to ensure that telecommunication towers remain operational during power outages due to floods. The Ministry of Finance, in a statement today, said that the retail price of diesel in Peninsular Malaysia will remain at RM2.95 per litre, while in Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan, it will remain at RM2.15 per litre during the same period. KUALA LUMPUR, The number of online crime cases reported to the police last year rose by 35.5 per cent to 34,532 compared with 25,479 the previous year. The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said there was an increase in all six online crime categories, namely telecommunications crime, e-finance, love scam, e-commerce, non-existent loan and non-existent investment, with e-commerce crimes recording the highest increase at 33.2 per cent. “This is followed by telecommunications crimes (30 per cent), non-existent investments (15.6 per cent), non-existent loans (12.3 per cent), e-finance (6.1 per cent) and love scams (2.7 per cent),’ it said in a
