Floods: Evacuees Rise To 8,066 In Kedah As At 8 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, A total of 8,066 flood evacuees are currently housed in 41 temporary relief centres across Kedah as of 8 pm tonight, marking a slight increase from the 8,022 evacuees from 2,568 families reported at 4 pm. According to the Disaster Info portal of the Social Welfare Department (JKM), the evacuees, from 2,582 affected families, come from five districts in the state. Kota Setar district recorded the highest number of evacuees with 4,291 people, followed by Pendang (1,483), Kubang Pasu (1,349), Pokok Sena (796) and Bandar Baharu (147). Sabah Expands Rumah Mesra SMJ Programme To 40 Units Per State Assembly

SIPITANG, Sabah will increase the construction of Rumah Mesra Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) homes to 40 units for each State Legislative Assembly from next year. The move is to help the poor who cannot afford to own their own homes, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor. He said the increase, up from 20 units per state assembly annually, will involve the construction of some 3,000 home units statewide next year as an effort to provide people experiencing poverty with more comfortable housing assistance. “This is because we know many more are homeless, and we must uplift them.
