KUALA LUMPUR,, Several non-governmental organisations (NGOs) have strongly condemned the assassination of the Hamas leader and political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, Iran. Muslim Youth Movement of Malaysia (ABIM) president Ahmad Fahmi Mohd Samsudin said the organisation strongly condemns Israel for this assassination on foreign soil, adding that such actions undermine the principles of international law and escalate tensions in an already volatile region. IPOH,, A total of 12 heat-related illness cases were reported in Perak in the first seven months of this year, said State Human Resources, Health, Indian Community Affairs, and National Integration Committee chairman A. Sivanesan. He said that out of the total, four cases were heat stroke, with one resulting in death, and eight cases were heat exhaustion. SHAH ALAM,, A Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) lecturer pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court, here, today, to 20 counts of fraud, involving eight agents, by submitting false enumerator salary claims between 2019 and 2022. Professor Dr Lee Lai Soon, 49, was accused of intentionally deceiving parties involved by submitting claims with false information, amounting to RM45,366, for services that were never rendered. He is charged with committing an offence under Section 18 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, and can be punished under Section 24(2) of the same law, which provides for a maximum imprisonment of 20

KUALA LUMPUR,, Amendments to the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 are being made due to the rapid technological advancements, which require society to rely on digital platforms for business purposes while also expecting protection, said Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo. He said that although the digital era offers substantial economic opportunities, the government needs to evaluate the risks associated with digital platforms to prevent the misuse of personal data. PUTRAJAYA,, The establishment of the National Council for Indian Community Affairs is among three recommendations proposed in the Malaysian Indian Community Tranformation Unit’s (MITRA) Action Plan Roadmap. Deputy National Unity Minister K. Saraswathy said the council, which will be headed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, will act in making decisions regarding MITRA’s policies and allocations. Two other recommendations contained in the report are the establishment of a MITRA trust account and the restructuring of the agency’s organisational structure. “The creation of a MITRA trust account is intended to allow the balance of the unspent allocation in the current
