DepEd has enough funds to strengthen SPED mandate

MANILA: The budget granted the Department of Education (DepEd) will be enough to convert Special Education (SPED) centers into Inclusive Learning Resource Centers for Learners with Disabilities (ILRC).   Senator Sherwin Gatchalian said in a news release on Friday that the bicameral conference committee report on the 2023 national budget carried his proposal to add PHP64 million to DepEd’s PHP96-million budget for such purpose.   The bicam report also carried Gatchalian’s proposal to allocate PHP100 million for instructional materials for learners with disabilities.   It will cover learners enrolled in both the formal system and the Alternative Learning System and

Albay issues ‘no sailing’ policy; 6 LGUs suspend classes

MANILA: Albay Governor Edcel Greco Alexandre Lagman on Friday issued an advisory imposing the “no sailing” policy on small sea vessels and against river crossing.   “Due to the effects of the thunderstorm, low-pressure area and the shear line affecting Luzon as issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Albay will experience rain that may result in river swelling, flashflood, landslide and localized flooding,” read the order that was posted on the governor’s social media page.   The advisory was issued to ensure the safety of the people, particularly those residing in high-risk areas.   Lagman,

TRO on NCAP delays Baguio’s long-term traffic solution

MANILA: Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong on Friday said the Supreme Court’s issuance of a temporary restraining order (TRO) against the no-contact apprehension policy (NCAP) has delayed the full implementation of a program being eyed as a long-term solution to address the worsening traffic congestion in this summer capital.   “The only way to address the traffic congestion is through the Smart Mobility project. DSWD readies 46K food packs as LPA threatens Bicol

Naval Forces Western Mindanao gets missile-capable gunboat

ZAMBOANGA CITY: The Naval Forces Western Mindanao (NFWM) got a boost in its capability against terrorism and kidnapping with the deployment of a missile-capable gunboat on the country’s southern border.   In a statement Friday, Lt.
