T-bill rates up on weaker peso

The rates of Treasury bills (T-bills) rose on Monday following the weakening of the peso to PHP50-level against the US dollar. The average rate of the 91-day paper increased to 1.068 percent, the 182-day to 1.384 percent, and the 364-day to 1.593 percent. These were at 1.044 percent, 1.351 percent, and 1.568 percent for the three- and six-month and one-year papers during the auction last July 5. “Rates moved slightly higher as peso breached (the) PHP50/1 USD mark,” National Treasurer Rosalia de Leon told journalists in a Viber message. QC padlocks 2 bars violating safety protocols

The Quezon City government closed down two bars on Monday after videos that showed Covid-19 safety protocol violations went viral on social media. The QC Business Permits and Licensing Department (BPLD) issued a temporary closure order on the G-Side Nightclub on Tomas Morato Avenue and the Cisos Gastro Bar along Del Monte Avenue. “The patrons of these bars even had the audacity to post in social media their wanton violation of health and safety protocols, oblivious to the fact that there are more transmissible variants now and public safety remains at risk,” Mayor Joy Belmonte said in a statement. C-130 plane crash survivors receive cash aid from DSWD

The 37 survivors of the July 4 C-130 plane crash in Patikul, Sulu received cash aid from the Department of Social Welfare and Development. Alvin Dacanay, DSWD Region 9 Disaster Response Management Division information officer, said Monday that each of the 37 survivors received PHP5,000 cash or a total of PHP185,000 from the department’s Crisis Intervention Unit. Each of the recipient-survivors also received family, hygiene, and sleeping kits aside from the cash aid. Navy strikes golds in PhilCycling trials road race

Riders from the Philippine Navy captured the two golds at stake in the road race of the PhilCycling National Trials for Road at the Clark Freeport Zone on Sunday. The Standard Insurance-backed Navy squad even swept the podium in the men’s race with Ronald Oranza leading the way. A Lanao del Sur town mayor was acquitted by the Sandiganbayan of corruption charges arising from the non-payment of the back salary of the municipal budget officer seven years ago. In a 34-page decision dated July 9 and written by Associate Justice Rafael Lagos, the anti-graft court’s Fifth Division found Balabagan, Lanao del Sur Mayor Edna Ogka-Benito not guilty in the complaint filed by erstwhile municipal budget officer Sarahlyn Masbud. Lawyers urged to study del Rosario’s liability in WPS issue
