Bicol: The Department of Trade and Industry has awarded halal certification to 20 establishments across various provinces in the Bicol region.
According to Philippines News Agency, the 20 halal-certified companies enhance consumer trust, create new market opportunities, and position Bicol as a leader in halal excellence. The certified establishments include Bahi Enterprise, Leslie Pili Products, and Pilicrush Enterprise from Sorsogon province; Deloverges Agri Farm, Ashley Judd Pilinut Candies, Kuya BS Mushroom Products, ZBC Food Products, and Ikaz Food Products from Camarines Sur; Jireh Food Products and Labo Progressive Multi-Purpose Cooperative from Camarines Norte; as well as Sitti’s Kitchen, First Colonial Creamery, Albay Pilinut Candies, Berton Pilinut Candies, C.O.P. Pilinut Candies, Cozytops Pilinut Candy, Noveno’s Pilinut Candy, The Rains Delicacies, and Legazpi Miki,Jiah Kitchen from Albay.
In an interview, Legazpi City Mayor Hisham Ismail said this development signifies inclusivity within the community. “This is great news not just for the Muslim community, but for everyone. It provides an opportunity for all and allows everyone to enjoy these offerings. We thank all those who worked hard and participated in establishing halal-friendly establishments,” he said.
He added that halal certification guarantees that processes are safe, proper, and just. “We are confident that these establishments have undergone rigorous requirements in accordance with international halal standards. We can assure everyone that it is safe and reliable,” he added.
He also bared plans for a halal slaughterhouse to process poultry products. “We will go to the Department of Agriculture for an initial funding of PHP20 million for the infrastructure. The plant will not only have an economic impact on the city but will also enhance food security for all residents,” he said.
