El salvador city: At least 19 regional offices of national government agencies are set to relocate to El Salvador City, Misamis Oriental, within the year. The move is expected to spark economic activity and enhance the implementation of national government programs in local communities, according to El Salvador Mayor Edgar Lignes. He emphasized that the city offers similar amenities as Cagayan de Oro, and is providing free office spaces to attract these agencies and promote local development.
According to Philippines News Agency, the city is strategically located for government transactions, especially for agencies interacting with offices in Manila and Cebu, due to its proximity to Laguindingan International Airport. The airport is a mere 12.6 kilometers away from El Salvador City, significantly closer than the 34.7 kilometers distance from Cagayan de Oro City.
The agencies identified for relocation include the Department of Agriculture, Department of Science and Technology, Maritime Industry Authority, National Meat Inspection Service, National Bureau of Investigation, and the Philippine Coconut Authority. The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency's regional office relocated last year, and other agencies have shown interest in moving to El Salvador City.
Aside from its strategic location, El Salvador City is renowned for the Divine Mercy Shrine, a popular pilgrimage site during the Holy Week. The city also serves as an agro-industrial hub, hosting several multinational food and manufacturing companies.
