150 Caraga Public Information Officers Enhance Skills in AI and Cybersecurity at Regional Conference

Butuan city: Some 150 Public Information Officers (PIOs) from various government agencies across the Caraga Region convened for a one-day Caraga Regional Information Officers Conference on Thursday, with a focus on advancing their understanding of artificial intelligence (AI) and cybersecurity.

According to Philippines News Agency, the conference, organized by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA), aimed to provide PIOs with valuable learning opportunities in AI and cybersecurity as technology and communication platforms continue to evolve rapidly. The event featured technical experts from Caraga State University and the Department of Information and Communications Technology, who served as resource speakers.

"As public communicators, we carry the responsibility of ensuring that our communities receive credible, relevant, and accessible information. The rise of artificial intelligence, the growing importance of cybersecurity, and the expanding role of mobile journalism present both opportunities and challenges that require continuous learning and collaboration," stated PIA-13 Regional Director Venus Garcia.

The conference covered a range of topics including Understanding AI Tools, Ethical Practices, Cybersecurity Awareness in the Digital Age, and Mobile Journalism. Additionally, PIOs received updates on PhilHealth's Yaman ng Kalusugan Program, Zero Billing, and information on El Ni±o.

Kylee Doreene Que-Plaza of the Department of Tourism described the conference as a meaningful experience that offered practical insights into effective communication.

"This year's topics talk about data privacy, the responsible and ethical use of AI tools in government communication, and the growing importance of mobile journalism in today's fast-paced digital landscape," remarked Andy Ordo±a of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources.

Garcia expressed gratitude to the speakers and PIOs who participated in the conference, expressing hope that PIOs in the region will continue to be empowered with the skills and knowledge needed to adapt to the evolving media and information environment.
