119 Antique Farmers, Fisherfolk to Receive Insurance Claims

Antique: The Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) in Antique is set to release insurance claims to 119 farmers and fisherfolk in the coming days.

According to Philippines News Agency, PCIC Antique head Clogene Galuego confirmed in an interview that the affected farmers suffered losses due to the southwest monsoon, which was intensified by tropical cyclones Crising, Dante, and Emong last month. The adverse weather conditions led to significant damage to both crops and fishing boats in the region.

Galuego announced, “We had received a total amount of PHP640,108 from our PCIC regional office only yesterday, which is why we will be releasing it already in the next few days.” Each farmer is expected to receive approximately PHP20,000 per hectare of damaged crops, though the exact amount will depend on factors such as the age, type, and area of the insured crops.

In addition to the farmers, the insurance claims extend to the fisherfolk, with 11 fishing boats reported damaged. The compensation will be PHP40,000 per unit for motorized boats and PHP10,000 for non-motorized ones.

Galuego also urged the affected farmers and fisherfolk to visit their Municipal Agriculture Offices (MAOs) to file their Notice of Loss. The deadline for filing claims related to tropical cyclone Emong, the most recent weather disturbance, is set until August 14.
