Candon city: ZUS Coffee secured a 25-20, 25-22, 24-26, 25-19 win over Choco Mucho at the Candon City Arena in Ilocos Sur, keeping their perfect record intact in the PVL Reinforced Conference.
According to Philippines News Agency, import Anna DeBeer led the Thunderbelles with 20 points from 19 attacks and one ace, propelling the team to their sixth consecutive victory. This win brings them within two games of completing an undefeated run in the two-round preliminaries.
Chinnie Arroyo added 11 points, delivering crucial hits that sealed the game for ZUS Coffee after one hour and 55 minutes. Riza Nogales contributed significantly with seven blocks and finished with 11 points, while Jovelyn Gonzaga and AC Miner each added 10 points to the team’s victory.
Madeleine Madayag was a standout for Choco Mucho, scoring 18 points, including 10 blocks, as her team dominated the third set and carried momentum into the fourth. The Flying Titans briefly took a lead with Anyse Marlee Smith’s spike tying the score at 17-all, followed by Lorraine Peca±a’s block putting them ahead at 19-18. However, ZUS Coffee rallied back with efforts from Arroyo, Gonzaga, and Nogales, regaining control at 21-19 and clinching the win.
Choco Mucho’s Desiree Wynea Cheng scored 12 points, with Maria Lina Molde and Smith contributing 11 and seven points, respectively, as the Flying Titans faced their fourth defeat against two wins.
ZUS Coffee’s Cloanne Mondonedo, who delivered 26 excellent sets, emphasized the importance of teamwork in their success. “All the games, it’s going to be tight. But because I have the trust of my teammates and the coaches, I just want to do my job well,” she stated. DeBeer also excelled defensively with 10 receptions, while Alyssa Eroa and Gonzaga made 26 and 11 digs, respectively.
Mondonedo expressed a cautious outlook on their journey, saying, “Victory is still a long way off, but we will work on it every game – one game at a time.”
