Abu dhabi: A world-class higher education institution in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has recognized Filipino educator Rex Bacarra for excellence and contribution to human capital development in the Gulf state.
According to Philippines News Agency, Bacarra, a professor of ethics, philosophy, and humanities, was one of two faculty members from the Zayed Military University and the only Filipino to receive the prestigious Rabdan Academy Excellence Award - Students' Choice Award. The government-owned Rabdan Academy is the world's first higher education institution specializing in the safety, security, defense, emergency preparedness, and crisis management (SSDEC) domain to achieve the highest '5-Star' rating under the QS Stars University Rating System across its six key categories - teaching, facilities, employability, global engagement, academic development, and good governance.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Bacarra expressed that the recognition was 'especially meaningful' as it acknowledges his work at the Zayed Military University, where the UAE's future officials and leaders are educated. Bacarra stated, 'To be welcomed by another country is a privilege. To be trusted to educate its future leaders is an enormous responsibility. To be recognized for that work by a government institution of the United Arab Emirates is an honor I will never forget.'
Bacarra is a highly accomplished educator, speaker, and writer with a PhD degree in Philosophy. He has extensive teaching and administrative experience at various academic institutions, both as a full-time and adjunct faculty member, including the Geneve Business School, York St. John Business School, the University of the West of Scotland, Curtin University, and San Beda University. He also served as the former Dean of General Education at the American College of Dubai. In the past, he has received several local and international awards for his outstanding contributions, including being named one of the 100 Most Influential Filipinos in the Gulf for five consecutive years.
