Sagay city: The second local government unit (LGU)-managed Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) civil registry system (CRS) outlet in the Negros Island Region (NIR) and only the third in the country is set to open in Sagay City, Negros Occidental early next year. Kabankalan City in southern Negros Occidental currently hosts the first LGU-operated CRS outlet in NIR and the Visayas, and it was the second established in the country following the one in Candon City, Ilocos Sur, which began operations in 2025.
According to Philippines News Agency, PSA-Negros Occidental supervising statistical specialist and officer-in-charge Diesah Biaoco confirmed that preparations are in full swing with a tentative opening date slated for the first quarter of 2027. The LGU-operated CRS outlet, similar to the PSA-Negros Occidental provincial office in Bacolod City, will handle requests for birth, marriage, and death certificates as well as certificates of no marriage record and no death.
PSA Undersecretary and National Statistician Claire Dennis Mapa held a meeting with Mayor Leo Rafael Cueva on August 19 to finalize Sagay as the site for the northern Negros CRS outlet. This new outlet is expected to serve around 300 clients daily. The PSA team has also conducted an ocular inspection of the proposed site located on the ground floor of the old Sagay City Hall.
In a statement, Mayor Cueva emphasized that the project aligns with the city government's ongoing efforts to make essential national government services more accessible to the residents of Sagay and surrounding communities. He mentioned that the city's Local Civil Registrar Office is ready to support the new facility.
The establishment of the CRS outlet is anticipated to not only enhance access to government services but also increase foot traffic in the city center, thereby benefiting nearby businesses and service providers. In preparation for the opening, the PSA and the city government are collaboratively working on the facility's office layout, staffing, systems, internet connectivity, transaction requirements, and other operational necessities.
