La trinidad: Mayor Roderick Awingan announced that the triplet strawberry cake event, part of the town's monthlong Strawberry Festival, is nearing its conclusion with only a few events remaining. "We thank our residents, the people of La Trinidad and our neighboring towns, as well as those from Baguio who joined us in the events for the Strawberry Festival," he shared during a press interview on Monday.
According to Philippines News Agency, the triplet strawberry cake event took place on Sunday. This institutionalized event is a continuation of the municipality's 2004 Guinness World Record achievement for creating the largest strawberry shortcake, which weighed in at 9,622.23 kg. The recent event saw the triplet cake sell out completely, with 11,000 tickets purchased at PHP20 each.
"We are grateful for the support. The purchase of the ticket is not about sales but about the public's eagerness to be part of something special for all of us with the Strawberry Festival conceptualized as a community," Awingan emphasized. The cake, crafted with 500 kg of strawberry jam and 200 kg of fresh strawberries for garnishing, also provided local farmers an opportunity to sell strawberries and related products.
Nic Espadero, chief operating officer of Valley Break, noted that the event involved 400 pans of shortcake baked by 60 volunteer personnel, along with 30 staff members who constructed the triple-layer cake featuring red, white, and pink strawberry layers in a basket design. Each year, the strawberry cake event introduces a thoughtfully curated new design.
La Trinidad is celebrated for producing the largest quantity of strawberries in the country. The festival serves as a reminder to the town to uphold its identity as the nation's strawberry capital.
