Traffic, Curfew Violations Lead Bicol’s Safer Cities Campaign

Bicol: Police Regional Office 5 (PRO-5) recorded 32,157 apprehensions during the implementation of the Safer Cities initiative across Bicol from April 6 to 26. PRO-5 director, Brig. Gen. Erosito Miranda, stated that the initiative aligns with national efforts to improve public order under President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

According to Philippines News Agency, traffic ordinance violations accounted for the highest number of cases with 11,819 apprehensions. Curfew violations involving minors followed with 8,558 cases, while drinking and smoking in public places resulted in 7,621 apprehensions. Data further shows that 2,907 individuals were apprehended for going shirtless in public.

Authorities recorded 1,840 cases involving illegal structures and road obstructions. Other violations included 791 cases of littering or public urination and 519 cases of karaoke use beyond permitted hours. Apprehensions also included 87 cases of vandalism and 15 cases involving the wearing of balaclavas in public. Of the total apprehended, 11,883 individuals were fined a total of PHP 5.615 million.

Warnings were issued to 22,274 individuals who were subsequently released. Miranda emphasized that the results reflect sustained enforcement operations and close coordination with local government units. 'The Safer Cities initiative is not merely about apprehensions; it is about restoring order, reinforcing discipline, and ensuring that every community in Bicol feels safe,' Miranda was quoted as saying.
