Antique Board Member Seeks PHP5 Million for Organic Farming Support

Antique: Antique board member Fernando Crovera Jr. on Wednesday requested a PHP5 million fund from the Office of Governor Paolo Everardo Javier to support organic farming in the province. Corvera emphasized the commercial potential of organic agricultural products and the need for provincial government support to aid farmers.

According to Philippines News Agency, Corvera highlighted the absence of a provincial technical committee to assist farmers in producing organic agricultural products. As the chair of the Committee on Agriculture at the provincial board, he made this statement during the opening of the Kadiwa ng Pangulo (KNP) at the old Antique capitol lobby. The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) is set to manage the fund and establish a technical committee to ensure all assistance is directed toward organic farming.

Meanwhile, Corvera expressed a desire to institutionalize the KNP across all 18 municipalities of Antique. This institutionalization would allow farmers, fisherfolk, and other agri-based producers to participate in a quarterly KNP event in their respective municipalities, rather than just converging in San Jose de Buenavista for the marketing event. The KNP in San Jose de Buenavista is scheduled to run from April 29 to May 1.

Corvera mentioned that during the KNP, farmers, fisherfolk, and producers of food and non-food items can not only sell their produce at affordable prices, but they also have the opportunity to meet consolidators of their products.
