Baguio: The Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) has pledged ongoing support for the improvement of Burnham Park. This commitment was highlighted during the recent opening of the rehabilitated Burnham Lake, marking a significant milestone in the park's development.

According to Philippines News Agency, TIEZA allocated over PHP400 million for the rehabilitation of Burnham Park, with PHP150 million dedicated to the lake's refurbishment. The lake's rehabilitation was completed in 11 months and was officially inaugurated on the city's anniversary. The next phase will focus on upgrading the children's playground and the rose garden.

TIEZA Chief Operating Officer and General Manager Mark Lapid emphasized the personal significance of Burnham Park to him, recalling childhood memories of biking and boating. He expressed his joy in contributing to the park's development, aiming to enhance the experience for future generations of children and their families.

Lapid also addressed the challenges faced during the project's inception, which was delayed due to budget constraints exacerbated by the pandemic. He stressed the importance of perseverance and finding solutions to achieve desired goals despite obstacles.

Burnham Park remains a popular attraction in the city, particularly known for its boating activities.

In addition to the park's rehabilitation, TIEZA has allocated PHP500 million for Baguio City's sewerage treatment plant. This initiative responds to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) issuing notices of violation to the city for polluting the Balili River. Lapid reiterated the necessity of this investment to prevent potential tourism disruptions in Baguio.
