Pasay city: The three-day Taiwan Expo 2026 commenced on Thursday, welcoming 125 companies to the Philippines, a development that the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) noted as indicative of the increasing interest among Taiwanese firms in the nation.
According to Philippines News Agency, Taiwan Expo 2026 spokesperson and TAITRA chairman James Huang expressed that the participating firms recognize 'great potential' in the established commercial ties between Taiwan and the Philippines. Huang expects the expo to foster business deals worth USD100 million. He highlighted the restructuring of the global supply chain as a driving force behind Taiwanese companies' efforts to diversify operations, identifying the Philippines as a preferred destination in the electronic manufacturing and semiconductor sectors.
Huang also mentioned that Taiwanese businesses are notably keen on collaborating with Filipino firms in emerging technologies, particularly in artificial intelligence applications. Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines (TECO) Representative Wallace Chow, who attended the event, underscored the strengthening trade, investment, and talent exchanges between Taiwan and the Philippines. Chow emphasized the need to continue this momentum to enhance economic and industrial cooperation further.
Chow remarked on the Philippines' status as one of Southeast Asia's rapidly growing economies, offering significant potential for Taiwanese entrepreneurs and investors. He noted that Taiwan's expertise in technology and innovation aligns well with the Philippines' dynamic economy.
Organized by Taiwan's International Trade Administration under the Ministry of Economic Affairs and implemented by TAITRA, the Taiwan Expo serves as an international trade platform. The Philippine edition, taking place from September 17 to 19, gathers Filipino buyers and Taiwanese businesses showcasing products in smart manufacturing, renewable energy, healthcare, agriculture, and consumer goods, among other sectors.
Additionally, the expo will feature the inaugural Taiwan-Japan-Philippines Industrial Cooperation Forum at the SMX Convention Center. This forum aims to unite Taiwanese and Japanese companies with Philippine businesses to explore potential collaboration in areas such as green energy and smart cities.
