Antipolo: The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has issued a reminder to candidates and political parties participating in the upcoming March 14 special polls in the 2nd District of Antipolo City regarding the commencement of a ban on the provision of social services starting March 4. This directive aims to regulate activities leading up to the election of the new representative for the district in the House of Representatives.
According to Philippines News Agency, Comelec chairperson George Garcia announced that the nine-day ban will remain in effect until March 13, the day before the scheduled special polls. The social services programs affected by the ban include the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) and Ayuda para sa Kapos ang Kita Program (AKAP) from the Department of Social Welfare and Development, as well as the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) from the Department of Labor and Employment.
Garcia emphasized the strict enforcement of the ban, stating, "When we say absolute ban, it means absolute. Let's not look for any loopholes or test the resolve of the Comelec. There will be no room for compromise." He urged voters to refrain from accepting any form of social service assistance from the government during this prohibited period.
Garcia further explained the rationale behind the ban, saying, "We know you need this blessing. But these are not from politicians and will just be used for politicking or propaganda. Let's not let our dire needs be taken advantage of in the name of personal interest." The ban is enforced under Resolution No. 11185, which mandates an absolute ban on the release of public funds from March 4 to 13, with exceptions granted only for burial and medical assistance.
