Marikina city: The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has issued a show-cause order (SCO) against the operator of a passenger jeepney involved in a viral road rage incident in Marikina City, putting its Certificate of Public Convenience (CPC) at risk.
According to Philippines News Agency, acting LTFRB Chairman Greg Pua Jr. stated that the SCO was issued to Gardenia Kapit-Bisig Multi-Purpose and Transport Service Cooperative based on a video posted on social media. Pua emphasized that road rage not only creates legal issues but also compromises the safety of drivers and other road users.
The video depicted a private vehicle motorist engaged in a road rage incident with other motorists, including a jeepney driver, on a busy road in Marikina City. This altercation disrupted traffic flow and left passengers of the jeepney stranded.
Pua explained that the incident violates the provision in the CPC that requires operators to provide safe, reliable, and convenient public land transportation service. As a result, the LTFRB has directed the operator to submit a notarized written explanation for employing a reckless public utility vehicle (PUV) driver by the scheduled hearing on September 10.
Pua also reminded public transport operators to regularly advise their drivers to exercise patience and discipline, stressing that avoiding such incidents is crucial to maintaining their authority to operate. He urged everyone to remain respectful and observe road courtesy to prevent mistakes.
