Antique: Senator Loren Legarda has expressed her gratitude to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for bringing to fruition the long-held aspiration of Antique±os for an enhanced airport facility. During the inauguration ceremony of the Evelio B. Javier Antique Airport, Legarda highlighted the essential support provided by President Marcos and various national government agencies in realizing the airport development projects initiated in 2014 or 2015.
According to Philippines News Agency, the airport redevelopment project, with a total investment of PHP1.576 billion, includes significant upgrades such as the construction of a new passenger terminal building and control tower. The terminal building has been expanded to 2,224 square meters from its previous 181 square meters, thereby increasing its seating capacity from 64 to 360. The number of check-in counters has also been increased from two to six.
The development enables the airport to accommodate up to four jet aircraft simultaneously, with an upgraded control tower now standing at seven storeys, compared to its former three-storey structure. The runway has been extended from 1,430 meters to 1,800 meters, allowing it to handle jet aircraft. Additionally, modern systems for baggage handling, flight information, and passenger convenience have been installed.
Senator Legarda emphasized the strategic importance of the airport for the people of Antique and neighboring provinces, offering a closer alternative to the New Iloilo International Airport and Caticlan Airport. The project, completed with a terminal cost of PHP126 million and a tower cost of PHP46 million, serves as a model for regional and national development efforts.
