Senate Targets Passage of 17 LEDAC Priority Bills by June

Manila: The Senate will prioritize the passage of key measures endorsed by the Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC), with a target to approve at least 17 priority bills before June, Senate President Vicente Sotto III said Tuesday. In a chance interview, Sotto shared that the caucus agreed to expedite the bills in the legislative calendar, particularly those included in the LEDAC list.

According to Philippines News Agency, Sotto noted that some measures have been 'sleeping in committee,' especially the top 14 among the 48 bills listed under the LEDAC agenda. He emphasized that discussions during the Senate caucus focused on these major topics, highlighting the urgency to pass the 17 listed measures by June.

Sotto clarified that the Senate would remain in session until June, with only a scheduled Easter break. He reassured that despite the break, the legislative agenda would proceed without issues. Among the measures discussed in the caucus was the proposed Anti-Political Dynasty bill, which Sotto acknowledged would likely undergo lengthy interpellations.

Additionally, Sotto addressed a resolution filed by members of the minority bloc concerning protection against extraordinary rendition. He confirmed that this resolution remains scheduled for interpellation, indicating ongoing deliberations on the matter.
