Datu odin sinsuat: Twenty assorted firearms were turned over to the local police in Datu Odin Sinsuat (DOS), Maguindanao del Norte Tuesday as part of the government's campaign against loose firearms.
According to Philippines News Agency, the surrendered firearms came from the villages of Baka, Taviran, Badak, Linek, Mompong, Sapalan, Niketan, Labungan, Tinonggos, Tambak, Dulangan, Kusiong, Kakar, Benolen, Capiton and Tamontaka.
'Village officials collected the unlicensed firearms from their constituents as part of the local government's peace program,' DOS Mayor Abdulmain Abas told reporters during the turnover at the municipal covered court here.
It was the second batch of loose firearms and ammunition turned over to authorities this year under the police's 'Balik Baril' program.
Among the firearms surrendered by 10 village captains in January were 3 improvised sniper rifles, 3 homemade M79 grenade launchers, a homemade KG9 9mm sub-machine gun, 2 homemade UZI 9mm sub-machine guns, 2 homemade caliber .38 revolvers and 6 40mm High Explosive Dual Purpose (HEDP) rounds.
The firearms were surrendered to the Regional Forensic Unit-Bangsamoro while HEDP rounds are with the Provincial Explosive and Canine Unit-Maguindanao.
