Manila: The Senate has approved work-from-home arrangements for its employees on Wednesday and Thursday, June 10 and 11, following security assessments and inspections prompted by threat information from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
According to Philippines News Agency, Senate President Pro Tempore Sherwin Gatchalian issued an advisory allowing all Senate Secretariat and Senate Proper employees to work from home for the rest of the week. This excludes those required for security, safety, maintenance, and other essential functions. The advisory followed a security threat relayed by NBI Director Melvin A. Matibag.
Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Chief, retired Police Major General Alfredo Sotto Corpuz, stated that security teams have been conducting surveillance inspections around the Senate complex. The inspections are part of routine security sweeps, with the Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms (OSAA) collaborating with law enforcement agencies.
Corpuz confirmed that additional personnel and stricter inspections are part of the heightened security measures. He assured that there is no cause for panic, as the OSAA and law enforcement agencies are ensuring the institution's safety.
Coordination is ongoing with the Philippine National Police, National Intelligence Coordinating Agency, and other law enforcement and intelligence units regarding the information from the NBI. Gatchalian emphasized the importance of maintaining the safety and security of all personnel while continuing operations through remote work arrangements.
