SEC-Butuan Launches Investor Protection Week with Educational Initiatives

Butuan city: The Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) office in Butuan has initiated a weeklong campaign aimed at promoting investor protection and education to safeguard residents from fraudulent investment schemes.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Investor Protection Week (IPW) celebration is taking place at a local mall and will continue until November 14. The event features various information drives designed to help participants identify investment scams and make informed financial decisions. The IPW is an annual event established under Proclamation No. 846, issued on November 15, 2019, which designates the second week of November each year as Investor Protection Week.

SEC-Butuan has already provided assistance to 15 clients, helping them with registration, account settlement, and complaints related to online lending platforms. As part of its outreach efforts, the agency has entered into a memorandum of agreement with the Philippine Electronics and Communication Institute of Technology (PECIT). This partnership aims to implement joint financial literacy activities, empowering students and staff to become advocates for responsible investing.

In addition to these efforts, SEC-Butuan Director Jason Tan and PECIT President Romeo Zerrudo have formalized the collaboration, which is expected to enhance financial literacy and awareness among the community. Furthermore, on Friday, the agency plans to conduct a roadshow presentation for entrepreneurship students from the Saint Joseph Institute of Technology in Barangay Banza. This event will focus on raising awareness about investment scams and encouraging responsible borrowing practices.
