Milan: Italy-based Southeast Asian Games bronze medalist Agostino Teofilo Alfieri on Thursday paid a courtesy call to Consulate General Jim Tito San Agustin at the Philippine Consulate General in Milan, Italy. San Agustin personally extended his congratulations to the Philippine Hockey 5S through its playing team captain Alfieri for winning the bronze medal in the SEA Games in Thailand in December last year.
According to Philippines News Agency, Alfieri, a 28-year-old Italian-Filipino field hockey player and coach, served as captain of the Philippine indoor hockey team in the Thailand biennial meet. 'I'm overwhelmed with this recognition that our Consul San Agustin gave to me. My parents are with me and witnessed. They are also happy,' Alfieri said.
Through the achievements of Alfieri, the Philippine hockey continues to gain visibility in Europe, inspiring young Filipinos both at home and overseas to embrace the sport not only as competition but as a pathway to discipline, friendship, and national pride.
The Philippines bagged 50 gold, 72 silver, and 154 bronze medals behind host Thailand (233-154-113), Indonesia (91-112-130), Vietnam (87-81-110), Malaysia (57-57-117), and Singapore (52-61-89) in the Thailand SEA Games.
