San Juan’s active cases drop by 72% in 2 weeks

San Juan City’s Covid-19 cases dropped to 72 percent during the last two weeks.

As of the January 26 data, the city is down to 536 active cases after 1,947 were recorded on January 12.

San Juan only has seven active cases on Dec. 24, 2021 but greeted the new year with 152.

In a social media post on Friday, Mayor Francis Zamora said he wants to see the numbers decrease further before the Alert Level is lowered from the current No. 3.

“That is a 72.47 percent drop in two weeks only. Is it time for Alert Level 3? I’d say that I would want to see the numbers go down even lower and this is something that I foresee will happen in the next few days,” he said.

The city is also eyeing to inoculate about 5,000 children aged five to 11 years old.

The pilot vaccination for the youngest age group is set for February 4 and 5.

“This will really change the game in a big way, especially if you talk about the economy. One thing we experienced in the last few weeks is that the restrictions are no longer age-based but based on are you vaccinated or not. Once the age group of 5-11 is fully vaccinated, I believe there will be a shift in the policy because now families can again go to the malls, they can eat out, they can shop because the children are fully vaccinated,” Zamora said in a news channel interview.
