Recto, Pangilinan Tackle Measures to Stabilize Sugar Sector

Manila: Executive Secretary Ralph G. Recto has discussed with Sen. Francis Pangilinan several policy options to help align government actions on pressing issues concerning the sugar industry. The discussion took place during a meeting at Malaca±an Palace in Manila on Wednesday, where Recto assured Pangilinan that the sugar sector remains among the priorities of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Office of the Executive Secretary (OES) stated that the meeting was part of the Marcos administration's broader effort to craft responsive and coordinated interventions for the sugar industry, amid continuing challenges affecting production, prices, and supply. During the meeting, Pangilinan cited urgent issues confronting sugar farmers, mill workers, and consumers, and outlined key policy recommendations aimed at stabilizing the sector.

Recto vowed to review the concerns raised and ensure that these would be elevated to the appropriate government offices for policy consideration. He emphasized the need for close coordination between the executive and legislative branches to ensure the effective implementation of policy responses.

He also highlighted the necessity of sustaining dialogue with farmers, millers, and other stakeholders to craft inclusive and practical solutions that would strengthen the sugar industry.
