Manila: The repairs on the pumping stations in Roxas Boulevard are expected to be finished early next month, Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon said Wednesday. Dizon, who inspected the completed Padre Faura pumping station, stated that flooding in the area would be reduced once repair works at the Remedios and Estero de Abad pumping stations are completed.
According to Philippines News Agency, Dizon mentioned that the completion of these repairs would help mitigate flooding from Taft Avenue to P. Ocampo Street, including areas such as Malate, Kalaw, and Padre Faura. He expressed optimism that the flooding will decrease significantly, or at the very least, any floodwaters will dissipate quickly due to improved absorption by the repaired stations.
The three pumping stations, which are critical for managing floodwaters in the area, were previously damaged due to accumulated waste. Dizon highlighted that these facilities would soon be connected to power firm Meralco, as the stations are currently running on generators. He confirmed that by the end of June, the Roxas Boulevard pumping stations will have a direct connection to Meralco.
Furthermore, Dizon pointed out that collaboration with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority and Manila's city government is underway for the official handover, operation, and maintenance of the pumping stations.
