Manila: The Philippine Orthopedic Association (POA) has issued a strong condemnation of social media posts featuring orthopedic doctors allegedly “scamming the public” by promoting and selling medical products online. The POA highlighted that these acts are illegal and misrepresent legitimate health institutions.
According to Philippines News Agency, the POA emphasized the importance of ethical practices within the medical field, advocating for the responsible use of new technologies to enhance human health and cure diseases, rather than to deceive or harm the public. The association also warned against the misuse of AI-generated content on social media as a means to exploit and misinform users.
The public has been urged to remain vigilant and to report any fraudulent activities involving professional doctors, particularly orthopedic surgeons, who may be used to mislead the public into purchasing medical products through deceptive social media advertisements. The POA stressed the potential dangers of uncertified medical products marketed online, which could contain harmful substances that may worsen users’ health conditions.
As a preventive measure, the POA advised against patronizing such products and offered assistance in verifying the legitimacy of any orthopedic-related social media promotions. For verification, the public can reach out via email at [email protected].
