PSEi Rallies as Philippine Peso Ends Sideways Against USD

Manila: The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) extended its rally on the first trading day of the week, buoyed by optimism over domestic economic growth, while the peso ended sideways against the US dollar. The benchmark PSEi climbed 1.13 percent to 6,419.96 points, while the broader All Shares index rose 0.95 percent to 3,641.13 points.

According to Philippine News Agency, all sectoral indices advanced, led by Mining and Oil, which jumped 5.01 percent. Financials gained 2.14 percent; Property, 1.88 percent; Industrial, 0.81 percent; Holding Firms, 0.70 percent; and Services, 0.33 percent. Trading volume reached 1.02 billion shares worth PHP6.64 billion. Advancers outnumbered decliners, 142 to 80, while 53 stocks were unchanged.

Meanwhile, the peso closed at 59.26 against the US dollar, slightly weaker than its 59.24 finish last Friday. The currency opened at 59.22 and traded between 59.17 and 59.28, with an average of 59.24. Trading volume fell to USD887.3 million from USD1.23 billion in the previous session.
