Manila: Camp Ruperto Kangleon The Police Regional Office 8 (PRO-8) inaugurated a 48-kilowatt (kW) solar photovoltaic (PV) system at Camp Ruperto Kangleon, marking the first phase of a renewable energy project aimed at promoting energy efficiency and sustainability within the organization.
According to Philippines News Agency, PRO-8 stated that the PHP2.4-million solar power installation is part of the three-phase Solar Power Energization Project being implemented by PRO-8. The total investment for all three phases is estimated at between PHP8 million and PHP9 million. This initiative supports the government's campaign to encourage public offices to adopt energy-efficient power sources, reduce electricity costs, and help lower carbon emissions.
During the inauguration, PRO-8 chief Brig. Gen. Jason Capoy expressed optimism that provincial police offices and police stations across Eastern Visayas would follow suit in transitioning from conventional energy to renewable energy. "This stands as a symbol of innovation, progress, and our shared responsibility to build a more sustainable future for the communities we serve," Capoy said.
He highlighted that the shift to renewable energy would significantly reduce electricity expenses. Once the entire project is completed, PRO-8 expects to save around PHP120,000 to PHP150,000 per month on electricity bills. The solar energization project is anticipated to contribute not only to reduced operational costs but also to the government's broader efforts to promote sustainable and environmentally responsible practices in public institutions.
