President Marcos Orders Opening of More Bypass Roads to Mitigate Oil Price Hike Effects

Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has directed the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to initiate the opening of more bypass roads across the country as a measure to curb gasoline consumption amidst escalating oil prices.

According to Philippines News Agency, DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon emphasized that the initiative aims not only to conserve fuel but also to expedite the delivery of services. He highlighted the recent inauguration of the Lipa-Padre Garcia Bypass Road, which is set to function as an alternative route to the Manila-Batangas Road and Lipa-Rosario Road, thereby alleviating traffic congestion in Lipa City.

Dizon reiterated the President's directive to hasten the construction process to enhance road accessibility and reduce traffic woes. He underscored the significant impact of bypass roads, noting their potential to substantially decrease traffic and fuel consumption.

In addition, President Marcos has instructed the acceleration of farm-to-market roads (FMR) construction. During an inspection at Barangay New Casay, Braulio E. Dujali, Davao del Norte, Dizon, alongside Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr., stated that completing the remaining 1.9 km section of the FMR would shorten the transport duration of agricultural produce from New Casay to Dujali by half.

Dizon also addressed the importance of infrastructure improvements, such as the construction of riprap and drainage systems, to mitigate flooding risks and safeguard local farms and livelihoods.
