PNP Intensifies Security Measures for June School Opening

Manila: The Philippine National Police (PNP) will mobilize security operations nationwide to guarantee a peaceful and orderly return of millions of students to their classrooms this June. The PNP said police units across the country have been directed to strengthen visibility and public assistance operations near schools, transport terminals, and major roads ahead of the opening of classes on June 8.

According to Philippines News Agency, 'Our primary focus remains the total safety of millions of returning students, which is why the PNP is prioritizing strict traffic management to avoid congestion, intensified street patrols to prevent petty crimes like theft and swindling targeting youth, and the elimination of any localized threat or gang activity near school zones,' PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said in a statement on Friday.

Nartatez said police commanders nationwide were instructed to closely coordinate with school administrators, barangay officials, and local traffic management offices to maintain peace and order around educational institutions. 'We will deploy our personnel across all regions to establish a highly visible, reassuring police presence that deters criminals and ensures our schools remain secure, peaceful sanctuaries for learning,' he said.

Police assistance desks will also be activated in strategic areas near schools to immediately respond to public concerns and emergencies. The PNP appealed to communities to take part in maintaining safety during the opening of classes, especially in crowded public areas where students are vulnerable to theft, scams, and other street crimes.

'A safe school opening is a shared responsibility, and we highly encourage parents, barangay officials, and local volunteers to actively collaborate with our personnel on the ground through quick reporting of suspicious individuals or activities,' Nartatez said.
