Manila: The Philippine Air Force (PAF) on Wednesday announced that the involvement of its 960th Air and Missile Defense Wing (AMDW) in the Balikatan "Integrated Air and Missile Defense" (IAMD) exercises from April 26 to 29 highlighted its potential to significantly enhance the missile defense capabilities of allied forces.
According to Philippines News Agency, the exercises saw Philippine and United States forces collaboratively working to detect, track, and engage simulated targets through a coordinated sensor-to-shooter process. The operation utilized radar systems to provide early warning data, which were then analyzed and relayed to tactical units. This enabled timely engagement using the PAF's SPYDER Air and Missile Defense System in conjunction with US assets.
PAF spokesperson Col. Ma. Christina Basco emphasized that the 960th AMDW carried out simulation activities to further develop operational proficiency in air and missile defense. She noted that the integration of counter-unmanned aerial systems bolstered the capability to counter evolving aerial threats.
Basco highlighted that the PAF's role in the IAMD exercise underscores the significance of coordinated ground-to-air defense systems in tackling complex and evolving operational scenarios. She stated that the activity aligns with the objectives of Exercise 'Balikatan' by strengthening combined capabilities, enhancing interoperability, and improving the readiness of participating forces to respond to emerging threats. The exercise also reinforces the shared commitment of allied forces to maintaining peace, stability, and security in the Indo-Pacific Region.
Furthermore, Basco pointed out that engagements like the IAMD support the PAF's focus on building a mission-ready, capability-driven, and values-based organization.
