Manila: The country's telecommunications sector has attracted more than USD2.2 billion in announced capital expenditures for 2026, reflecting sustained industry confidence in the Philippines' digital future.
According to Philippines News Agency, Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Henry Aguda stated that the combined investments of PLDT Inc., Globe Telecom, and Converge ICT amount to approximately USD2.21 billion based on publicly disclosed company guidance as of August. The figure could reach approximately USD2.4 billion to USD2.45 billion once DITO Telecommunity's expected investments are factored in.
Aguda explained that the investments reflect growing confidence in the country and its digital transformation. "Crossing the USD2 billion mark sends a clear message: the telecommunications industry believes in the Philippines. These investments will translate into more infrastructure, better connectivity, new jobs, and greater opportunities for Filipinos as we continue building a digital-first economy," he said.
The investments come as the country accelerates the implementation of the 'Konektadong Pinoy Act,' expands the National Fiber Backbone, and advances the Marcos administration's goal of making digital services more accessible, affordable, and inclusive nationwide. Aguda emphasized the vital role of the telecommunications sector in supporting economic growth, innovation, digital government, education, healthcare, e-commerce, artificial intelligence, cloud services, and data center development.
Aguda acknowledged the continued partnership of PLDT, Globe, Converge, DITO Telecommunity, and other industry stakeholders in advancing the country's connectivity agenda. "This is Digital Bayanihan in action. We thank our telecommunications partners for continuing to invest in the Filipino people and in the nation's future. While each company competes in the marketplace, they are united in helping connect communities, grow the economy, create quality jobs, and strengthen the foundations of a more digitally empowered Philippines," he said.
PLDT has committed approximately PHP55 billion for 2026, Globe Telecom has set a guidance below PHP59.4 billion, while Converge ICT plans to spend around PHP17 billion to PHP20 billion. DITO Telecommunity is projected to invest below its 2025 spending of PHP15 billion to PHP18 billion. The DICT mentioned that publicly confirmed investment guidance from PLDT, Globe, and Converge alone already places the Philippine telecommunications sector above the USD2 billion mark for 2026.
